Challenge

StarShip is an innovative program of EIT Health for young entrepreneurs. During the program, the multidisciplinary teams receive training on entrepreneurship and develop solutions based on industrial challenges using the methodology of Biodesign presented by Stanford.

Solution

Young entrepreneurs go through a phase whose objective is to observe and prepare interviews in a real clinical environment to identify needs and gaps in the daily lives of the different stakeholders. Teams will prioritize needs, identify business opportunities, and deeply analyze those with the highest market potential.
In 2018, five industry partners of EIT Health are involved in the Program: Glintt (Portugal); Atos (Spain); GE Healthcare (Hungary); Medicen (France); Celon Pharma (Poland).

The StarShip educational program consists of several weeks of learning in different EU countries, as well as clinical immersions in different hospitals / health facilities. The first learning module introduces the fellows to the leadership methodologies in biodesign. The second is based on entrepreneurship and project management. The third module will be about innovation strategies and business models, and finally the fourth on communication and pitching.

Objectives, Activities and Results expected / achieved

Implementation of the multinational course, focusing on the involvement of industrial partners and their challenges in the process. The IPN coordinated the involvement of 5 industrial partners in the process, guaranteeing the program 5 challenges that were subsequently worked on by the multidisciplinary teams in order to validate the need and design a commercial solution in the healthcare area.
