ICIS
Intelligent Computing in the Internet of Services

Challenge

To perform world class research in intelligent computing for the Internet of Services and Things, and to achieve a continuum and increased momentum in national and international cooperation for these scientific challenges with sustainable increase in critical mass and international impact as well as the long term financial sustainability of the consortium by preparing it for national (e.g. Portugal2020) and international (H2020) framework programmes and for technology transfer and startup promotion.

Solution

Research in iCIS will be focused in two complementary yet interrelated directions: advanced algorithms and infrastructures for information capture and management in the internet, and intelligent algorithms for data analysis and knowledge extraction for smart internet services. The former will investigate key solutions for the future internet related mainly to cloud computing, internet of services and things, internet security, and advanced software engineering, whereas the latter will concentrate on intelligent algorithms for data analysis and knowledge extraction over internet-based solutions focusing on relevant scientific and socio-economic problems involving complex, multi-parametric data in high volumes. More specifically, the consortium will focus on three main application areas where considerable expertise exists in the team: computational intelligence for personal health systems (PHS) directed towards chronic cardiovascular and neurological disease management, intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and information retrieval systems. IPN is responsible for exploitation activity which aims to stimulate the knowledge valorisation processes produced by the ICIS project in an effort to initiate the project's results commercialisation process by presenting it to customers, business partners and potential investors. In this context, IPN will find funding opportunities for the project's results and will develop activities to "early spot" the most promising technologies from a market perspective and then involve the stakeholders.
