ShellutionPlus searches for an innovative and sustainable biogenic mineral filler for paints and paper formulations by reconciling the challenges of management and synthesis of food waste with the technical performance of the newly developed products.
The main goal of the project is to highlight the potential of this biogenic calcium carbonate from eggshell.
Regardless the application, the presence of the organic fraction (the membrane of the eggshell) and the pigment responsible for the eggshell color force the increase of the new synthesis stage. The project aims to evaluate the radon gas permeability of the developed inks and improve the mechanical performance of the paper sheets.
Expected results:
a) Development of new biogenic mineral fillers for paint and paper formulations;
b) Development of new paints with radon barrier effect;
c) Improve the technical properties of paper sheets;
d) Analysis of sustainability of entire life cycle.
Achieved Results:
a) A new biogenic mineral filler from eggshell wastes for the development of new paint and paper formulations;
b) A novel paint formulation with potential radon barrier properties;
c) A novel papermaking formulation with improved technical properties;
d) Scale up the entire process to develop a new filler;
e) Potential environmental impacts of the new fillers for paint and papermaking formulations.
