CogniViTra
Cognitive Vitality Training at home

Challenge

The growth in the incidence of different neurodegenerative diseases that leads to cognitive impairment is a growing problem worldwide. Current care systems lack resources to address the growing number of patients requiring intervention, highlighting the need for new solutions. COGNIVITRA targets people above 50 years old at risk of cognitive impairment and with at least one risk factor for mental health. COGNIVITRA will engage end-users in co-creation and co-design of the COGNIVITRA product.

Solution

COGNIVITRA will develop a ICT-based solution to support cognitive vitality training at home. COGNIVITRA product will integrate components for supporting cognitive and physical exercises – dual-task training - (web-based tools and movement sensors), a centralized platform that will facilitate the interface and communication between patients and care providers.

Objectives, Activities and Results expected / achieved

COGNIVITRA has created a unique solution to enable patients to increase the number of sessions and overcome the restrictions imposed by the availability of care resources for health professionals and infrastructures. The extension of the clinic installation to the home environment will create less of a burden for health professionals (formal and informal), as the tools needed for the training sessions will be at home and more readily available. It will also be a solution for healthcare professionals to use their time more efficiently by facilitating access to data relating to longer periods of evolution instead of the one-off assessment made during clinic visits and providing a communication channel between patients and professionals.

Objectives achieved:
- Development of a digital tool to support cognitive and motor stimulation in a clinical environment and at home;
- Business model design for new digital tools in the European market;
- Validation of the new solution with end users.

Results achieved:
- Digital tool prototype that includes digital "serious games";
- Virtual character as an intermediary for the exercise;
- Closed video consultation system;
- Integrated physical device for interaction with the user;
- Involvement of around 40 users in validating the solution;
- 4 technical-scientific publications;
- 1 registered industrial design.
