Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN) is one of the partners in the SHIFT Coimbra project, an innovative initiative that combines tourism, technology and sustainability. The project aims to transform Coimbra into a more intelligent and sustainable tourist destination, using advanced technological solutions.
With European funding of five million euros, the project includes various initiatives, such as the creation of an interactive Welcome Centre, the development of an application based on artificial intelligence to personalise tourist itineraries, the implementation of smart bins, as well as training actions for digital empowerment and the integration of migrants into the tourism sector.
The public presentation of SHIFT took place on 11 March 2025 at the Convento São Francisco, Coimbra, with the participation of João Gabriel Silva, President of the Board of IPN, and Jorge Pimenta, Director of Innovation at IPN.
The SHIFT Coimbra project is led by Coimbra City Council, in partnership with the Coimbra Region Intermunicipal Community (CIM-RC), the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra, the University of Coimbra, Instituto Pedro Nunes, Present Technologies and INOVA+.
