Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN) participated in the celebration of the
World Soil Day, an initiative organised by the
Environmental Ecology and Ecotoxicology Group and the
Centre for Functional Ecology (CFE), which took place on 5 December of 2024. The event took place in Cantanhede and brought together several entities to raise public awareness of the importance of soils in environmental sustainability.
With the theme, “
Caring for the soil: measuring, monitoring and managing”, the event included various activities such as scientific demonstrations, themed puzzles and the gathering of soil organisms. These activities made it possible to explore issues such as soil degradation, erosion and the need for more sustainable agricultural practices.
The commemoration counted with the participation of IPN, the
Municipality of Catanhede,
UC Biotech (Biocant Park) and
BeWild (CFE).
Established by the
Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), the World Soil Day is celebrated annually on 5 of December, with the aim of promoting the conservation and sustainable management of soil resources.
