Reactivation of SMEs: Innovation and Internationalisation
Challenge
Nowadays, one of the major challenges that innovative startups from the SUDOE territory face is entrance into new markets due to weak financial capacity and a lack of skills at an international level. RYME tries to address these challenges through support for innovation and internationalisation.
Solution
RYME supported and enhanced the international development of 100 innovative startups in Portugal, France, Spain, USA and Brazil. 50 of them come from the SUDOE territory (10 Portuguese, 20 French and 20 Spanish) and the last 50 companies come from the Americas (25 from the USA and 25 Brazilian). These companies were selected through a methodology developed by the consortium.
These companies are in contact through a web platform that aims to promote bilateral or multilateral commercial matching opportunities. Companies also took part in different training workshops about internationalisation and benefited from partnerships with business schools and universities within their territories which developed market studies about internationalisation in the selected markets and sectors (biotechnology/health, Greentech and sustainability and ICT).
In this way, RYME provided advanced support for the selected companies, addressing the emerging priorities from the SUDOE territory, namely by boosting international relationships in the selected sectors and incentivising transnational cooperation. By the end of 2014, 6 business protocols to establish business partnerships had already been established between 9 different companies.
