Approximately 85% of the European Union's GDP is generated in cities with the transport sector representing around 32% of European energy consumption and urban congestion being responsible for about 10% of CO2 emissions. In addition, the European economy loses an estimated €100 billion each year, i.e. 1% of European GDP, due to accessibility problems. There is clearly a need for more efficient and sustainable mobility.
TICE.Mobilidade is a large scale project conducted by the Portuguese ICT cluster TICE.PT. Its objective is the development of innovative products and services for more efficient and sustainable mobility in terms of consumption, emissions and business models. This is facilitated through a web platform, One.Stop.Transport, which offers apps for better mobility solutions that have been developed using open data. By promoting collaboration and commercial relationships between transport operators, technology companies, end users and other entities, OST aims to promote a digital ecosystem for applications which will enable users to move faster, thus spending less time and money and reducing ecological footprints, while generating income and new businesses.
