Challenge
Strengthen the existing health cluster in Coimbra, known for excellent research in the area of health and a world reference in certain areas, with a main focus on enhancing technology commercialisation skills, taking science to the market and supporting companies in entering the global market.
Solution
Create an internationally recognised network of excellence in the field of healthcare and medical solutions (HMS) to promote cooperation between businesses, universities/research centres, end users, and local and regional development agencies with a view to the global HMS market. From 2006, this network developed activities to promote cooperation among its partners, identifying needs/business opportunities, supporting the development of technologies aimed at the global markets and the internationalisation efforts of the network's players. It promoted several network events between its partners with the participation of about 200 partner staff, achieving the following results:
- 9 R&D applications at national and European level
- 17 technology validation and marketing of strategies of products/services
- 2 international events
- 3 trade missions
