Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN) is recruiting a Senior Researcher specialised in Intelligent Systems and Software Engineering, to integrate the team of the Informatics and Systems Lab (LIS). The ideal person should have significant experience in academia or industry and demonstrate the ability to coordinate initiatives, manage projects and apply interdisciplinary technologies to develop cutting-edge intelligent solutions.

Responsibilities:

• Design, conduct, and oversee advanced research projects focused on intelligent systems, software engineering and respective applications;
• Develop and implement innovative solutions by utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, data analytics, and other relevant technologies to optimize processes and communication systems;
• Utilize analytical tools and methodologies to interpret complex data sets and derive useful insights;
• Publish research findings in newspapers/magazines and/or conferences;
• Work closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, software developers, engineers, marketing professionals, and product developers to integrate research insights into practical applications;
• Lead multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery, budget compliance, and achievement of project goals;
• Stay updated with the latest trends in AI, intelligent systems, and software engineering, driving innovative approaches and ideas to enhance our research and product offerings;
• Guide young researchers and team members, fostering their professional growth and development.

Requirements:

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a similar area;
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in academia or industry, focused in Intelligent Systems, software engineering ou similar areas;
• Proven experience of managing and leading research projects successfully;
• Proven experience in applying interdisciplinary technologies to solve complex communication and system challenges.

Skills:

• Fluency in AI and machine learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch), data analysis tools (Python, R) and relevant communication or system management software;
• Strong skills for analysing complex data and draw meaningful conclusions to fundament strategic decisions;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for publishing research results and presenting them to diverse audiences in English;
• Project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines;
• Interpersonal skills to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment;
• Innovative and critical thinking abilities to address research and technical challenges.
