In partnership with the Portuguese Air Force, the startup presented the most advanced optical telescope in the country, a milestone for space safety.
Neuraspace, a startup incubated at Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN), has reached a historic milestone in the field of space observation. In partnership with the Portuguese Air Force, on 10 September the company unveiled the most advanced optical telescope in Portugal, installed at Beja Air Base.
Funded by the AI FIG Mobilising Agenda of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP), with 25 million euros, this equipment represents a significant leap forward for the safety and sustainability of outer space. The telescope will enable Neuraspace to make its Space Traffic Management Platform more advanced, offering more precise and efficient services to companies that operate satellites, helping to avoid collisions between satellites and space debris.
The ability to track and monitor objects in orbit with high precision is fundamental to guaranteeing the safety of space operations and avoiding incidents that could jeopardise the global space infrastructure. With the cooperation between Neuraspace and the Portuguese Air Force, this new technological infrastructure promises to strengthen Portugal's position as a major player in the development of innovative space solutions, while contributing to international efforts to preserve and sustain space.
The AI Fights Space Debris project, led by Neuraspace, has the participation of Instituto Pedro Nunes, GMVIS Skysoft, the University of Coimbra, the Instituto Superior Técnico and the Nova University of Lisbon.
