The 10th edition of the
Coimbra Space Summer School (CSSS) will take place at Instituto Pedro Nunes’ (IPN) facilities, in Coimbra, on
4, 5 and 6 September. Registration is now open and runs until
August 31st on the CSSS website.
CSSS is a summer school aimed at high education students, researchers, entrepreneurs and anyone with an interest in exploring space economy or wants to develop a business idea that uses space technology for terrestrial applications. The event encourages participants to propose ideas that will improve life on Earth, by creating innovative services or products that incorporate space assets.
The theme of the 2024 edition is “
the solar peak of 2025”, exploring the current solar cycle and sunspot activity, such as solar explosion and geomagnetic storms. The initiative features a diverse programme that stimulates knowledge sharing and contact with institutions in the space sector. Over three days, participants can attend conferences and receive mentoring from experts in the field of space, innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as socialise with Portugal's space community. Among the various activities is a visit to the
Geophysical and Astronomical Observatory of the University of Coimbra (OGAUC) for the Astronomical Fair and Night Observation.
As in the previous edition, the summer school will welcome international students from the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s degree in Planetary Geosciences - GeoPlaNet, promoted in partnership by the
Universities of Coimbra, Nantes (France) and
Gabriele d’Annunzio di Chieti/Pescara (Italy).
The initiative is organised by IPN, which coordinates the
ESA Space Solutions Portugal, in partnership with
OGAUC, the
Astrophysics and Space Sciences Institute and the
GeoPlaNet Master’s degree.
