Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN) made a visit to the company Granter.ai, incubated at IPN and based at Startup Lisbon, on July 10th of 2024.

This visit had the main objective of holding a pre-acceleration session as part of the ATTRACT-DIH project. Present were Carla Duarte and Mónica Ferreira of Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN), and Guilherme Ramos Pereira of DSPA Portugal, partner entities in this project. On the startup side, the CEO and CTO of Granter.ai were present.

Granter.ai simplifies the company funding application process, using an AI - Artificial Intelligence platform. It offers personalised correspondence of funding opportunities and elaborates application drafts optimised by AI, which are then reviewed by experts to increase the opportunities of success. The platform supports startups and SMEs in searching for funding opportunities efficiently, saving time and effort by centralising several funding sources, including subsidies, tal incentives, investments and loans. It is based at Startup Lisbon, one of the most recognised innovation hubs in Portugal.

The visit had the objective to provide a pre-acceleration session, using the KTH Innovation Radar methodology, which allows startups to evaluate and position their innovation and maturity grade in a set of critical business dimensions and thus define a strategic innovation radar.

On the side of the ATTRACT partnership were:
  • Carla Duarte and Mónica Ferreira, Innovation and Project Managers at Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN), one of the main centres for innovation, entrepreneurship, technology transfer, incubation and acceleration of technological startups in Portugal.
  • Guilherme Ramos Pereira, Executive Director of the Data Science Portuguese Association (DSPA), an association dedicated to promoting the use of science data and artificial intelligence, in Portugal.

On the startup side:
  • Bernardo Seixas, Co-Founder and CEO of Granter.ai, who presented the company’s strategic vision and the short and long term main objectives.
  • Bernardo Tavares, Co-Founder e CTO da Granter.ai, responsible for detailing technological innovations and the technical challenges faced by the startup.

The KTH Innovation Radar methodology is an auto evaluation tool developed by the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden. It allows startups to analyse their positioning in terms of innovation and market readiness in seven critical dimensions of activity:
  • Clients: the needs and expectations of their clients were evaluated, adapting their solutions to these needs and possibilities for evolution;
  • Technology: the current development of the startup’s technology was examined, specially in terms of AI, while looking ahead to its future development;
  • Business Model: the type and possibility of evolution of the business model adopted by the startup was analysed;
  • Intellectual Property: the protection of the assets and innovations developed by the startup was verified, providing guidance for the intellectual property management strategy;
  • Team: the composition and the competencies of the team was analysed, addressing its evolution;
  • Funding: the strategy of attracting financial resources and their short and medium term plans were known;
  • Sustainability: the current situation was debated, as well as how to integrate and give visibility to the commitment of Granter.ai with this dimension.

Following the visit, Carla Duarte and Mónica Ferreira of IPN considered it was an opportunity to meet a startup who identified a relevant problem where AI showcases the capacity to generate effective benefits.

The session was very productive and the methodology was suitable to carry out a strategic reflection with the startup. “It is with enthusiasm that we propose to continue accompanying Granter.ai, with the ATTRACT opportunities, specially through our specialised services and with its participation in the acceleration programme, which will take place in October and November of 2024, at IPN.

Guilherme Ramos Pereira of DSPA highlighted that “As an AI native company, it’s clear that it is a few steps ahead of many direct competitors and a huge number of national - and European - organisations in the field of technological innovation and processes, so while Granter.ai can be a direct beneficiary of ATTRACT’s services, it can also be a partner of the consortium itself in its mission to inspire and empower many other professionals and companies, not only startups, through its history.

For the Co-founders of Granter.ai, “The session provided by the ATTRACT project was extremely productive and enlightening. Through the KTH Innovation Radar methodology, we got to carry out a quick but deep analysis of our company, recognising with clarity our strengths and areas for improvement. We knew we had some loopholes, which is common in startups in our phase, but this incentive to reflect and trace specific steps towards continuous improvement is inestimable. The planned acceleration programme will be a fantastic opportunity to empower ourselves even more and continue to evolve!

The visit to Granter.ai was a relevant moment for autoanalysis and reflection. The application of the KTH Innovation Radar Methodology provided a clear vision of the current state of the company and originated strategic guidance for its future.
It also highlighted the acceleration programme that IPN is organising for startups such as Granter.ai, which will take place in October and November of 2024. Registration will be open on the ATTRACT-DIH website.

This session integrated the ATTRACT-DIH project, Digital Innovation Hub for Artificial Intelligence and High-Performance Computing, which supports the digital transformation of the portuguese productive sector, by integrating technological solutions based on AI and HPC, namely involving startups in pre-acceleration event, such as this one.

This project is co-financed by the PRR Portuguese Recovery and Resilience Plan and by the European Union - Next Generation EU.
