On October 26, Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN) attended the 5th Integration Day of the Scorpion Project, a European initiative funded by the Horizon 202 Programme, which was supported by Sogrape and held at Quinta do Seixo in Pinhão.

The aim of this European project is to develop autonomous robots to spray mountain vineyards without wasting chemicals, with environmental and economic advantages. These new technologies will enable a reduction in the use of phytopharmaceuticals and an increase in the levels of mechanisation and automation in mountain vineyards and tree crops in general, which translates into environmental (less chemical pollution) and economic benefits.

José Ricardo Aguilar, Head of Legal and IP, and António Cunha, Deputy Director of the Automatics and Systems Lab, represented the IPN at this event, during which the results of this project were presented to a number of players in the wine industry, with a special focus on the application of robotics in vine treatment.

On 27 October, the final meeting of the project was held at the headquarters of the Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering, Technology and Science (INESC TEC) in Porto. INESC TEC is leading this project, with the strategic support of iInstituto Pedro Nunes in the exploitation and protection of the results obtained during the project.
