To develop a new bio-based paint for the automotive industry.
The BioCoating project aims to develop a polyurethane-based paint for the automotive sector using polyurethanes produced from renewable-source polyols, ensuring high energy efficiency and distinctive functional properties.
The R&D activities of this project will focus on three key areas: (i) development of the production technology for renewable-source polyols; (ii) formulation of a polyurethane-based paint that meets the requirements of the automotive industry; and (iii) Life Cycle Assessment of the technology under development, and its comparison with the current technology based on fossil-derived polymers.
Preparation of polyurethanes containing at least 50% plant-based raw materials, suitable for application in the automotive industry; Formulation of a polymeric coating using polyurethanes with at least 50% plant-based raw materials that meets automotive industry requirements; Incorporation of commercial additives capable of absorbing UV radiation across all relevant wavelengths.
