POLYGREEN
Development of 100% bio-based polyester biocomposites with natural fibres for the automotive industry

Challenge

To develop 100% bio-based polyester biocomposites with natural fibres for the automotive industry.

Solution

To develop polyester-based compatibilisers and new multifunctional polyols using exclusively raw materials from renewable sources. Cellulose fibres extracted from rice straw will also be used to provide mechanical reinforcement to the polymer matrix.

Objectives, Activities and Results expected / achieved

Preparation of multifunctional polyols from renewable sources; Development of polyester-based compatibilisers using only monomers from renewable sources; Use of agro-industrial rice straw residues to obtain reinforcement fibres for the composites; Formulations for producing crosslinked polyesters using renewable-source monomers, polyester-based compatibilisers, and commercially available additives; Production of biocomposites based on crosslinked polyesters and natural fibres; Production of dashboard panels using exclusively materials from renewable sources.
