BioCaps
Development of biodegradable bioplastic formulations for the production of sustainable bottle caps

Challenge

To develop biodegradable bioplastic formulations for the production of sustainable bottle caps.

Solution

This project aims to develop a biodegradable bioplastic formulation for the production of bottle caps that do not require the use of additional materials such as aluminium on their top.
The solution proposed in this project offers several clear advantages: the exclusive use of biodegradable polymer-based materials and a significant reduction in the CO₂ footprint, both in terms of the bioplastics employed and the capsule production process itself.

Objectives, Activities and Results expected / achieved

Development of polyester-based processing additives from renewable sources; Development of biodegradable resins with high MFI; Production of biodegradable test specimens through injection moulding; Production of biodegradable capsules for wine bottling.
