Currently, the limits of economic growth and the risk of overexploitation of natural resources are threats that, together with the growth of the world population and the climate changes, made necessary an urgent change in the approach to our economic system.
In this context, it is important to stimulate the “bioeconomy”, a system that takes into account, not only the economic growth and production, but also the need for the conservation of natural resources, keeping them, as much as possible, in its value chain.
This stimulus is only possible through the reinforcement of strategic sectors (agriculture, forestry, livestock…), predominant in rural areas, through the promotion of innovation, the search for synergies between companies and the cooperation between regions, and the promotion of product and services based in the circular bioeconomy.
Main Objectives:
O1: Identify existing resources and agents in the Circular Bioeconomy sector within the cross-border region and foster the development of R&D+I projects and the region’s cooperation in order to generate knowledge and the development of biotechnological solutions, aimed at being incorporated into the market and in the regional industry;
O2: Promote the creation of new industries and economic activities and the diversification of productive activities, based on the transformation of biological resources and the development of new bioproducts and services;
O3: Maximize the potential of the Circular Bioeconomy sector in Castilla y León and the Center region of Portugal, promoting the presence in new markets and the demand for this type of resources and products.
Expected results:
• Identification of new bioproducts and bioprocesses that may lead to the generation of new business lines for companies by transforming previous by-products into new products;
• Promote collaboration between companies;
• Create a digital platform and joint online sales;
• Effective technology transfer network;
• Projects that generate productive activities.
