    Challenge

    ORACIA will develop a solution to support home and technology-based rehabilitation for people with aphasia.

    Solution

    The ORACIA smart solution for ageing well will contribute to the digital tansformation of health and care in speech and language therapy. Through an ICT-based platform, ORACIA will promote the extension of the rehabilitation ntervention performed in-clinic to the community setting (e.g. patient home, home care center).

    The main objective and technical advance will be the development of a new platform, which will be designed and validated by a multidisciplinary team together with rehabilitation professionals.

    Objectives, Activities and Results expected / achieved

    ORACIA has revolutionised rehabilitation for aphasia, through an interactive and holistic approach (speech therapy, physiotherapy and cognitive training), which impacts on patients' quality of life. ORACIA aims to fulfil an important role in increasing the availability of rehabilitation, allowing patients to improve or prolong their therapy and potentially improving outcomes.

    Objectives achieved:
    - Development of a digital tool to support the rehabilitation of aphasia in a clinical environment and at home;
    - Business model design for new digital tools in the European market;
    - Validation of the new solution with end users.

    Results achieved:
    - Prototype of digital tool that includes communication and language rehabilitation exercises;
    - Integration with cognitive and motor stimulation exercises;
    - Multilingual speech-to-text conversion component (in 5 languages) adapted to aphasia rehabilitation;
    - Original digital content associated with vocabulary selected by speech therapists;
    - Virtual character as an intermediary for the exercises;
    - Closed video consultation system;
    - Physical device adapted and integrated for the intended use;
    - Involvement of around 15 users in validating the solution;
    - 1 registered industrial design.
