Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN) has contributed to the
European Space Agency's (ESA) Proba-3. This mission, scheduled for launch in December 2024, aims to simulate an artificial solar eclipse, allowing us to observe the solar corona in detail.
Proba-3 is made up of two satellites which, in formation, will create a ‘space coronagraph’ to observe the solar corona with unprecedented precision. The scientific data collected will offer valuable insights into solar activity and its influences on Earth.
IPN was involved in the Quality Assurance of the InterSatellite Link (ISL), a communication system between satellites developed by the company TEKEVER, which enables the exchange of critical data between the mission's two satellites. Rui Henriques, from IPN's Quality Department, brought his experience for ensuring that the system met ESA's requirements.
