The challenges of caring for Europe’s ageing population require a new kind of specialists.
The EIT Health Ageing doctoral school (Ageing@EITHealth) was powered by a pan-European collaboration of academic and non-academic EIT Health partners to promote the international and cross-sectoral training of a new generation of PhD specialists to achieve solid Innovation and Entrepreneurship (I&E) skills. Ageing@EITHealth focused on the Aging Brain in concordance with accredited PhD programs complemented with a solid training in Innovation and Entrepreneurship. This PhD school has a varied portfolio of Universities with advanced teaching in Brain Aging, as well as international mobility and co-supervision of PhD theses in Universities, Hospitals and Companies.
Short-term outcomes included:
• The involvement of students in doctoral and other similar programs;
• The attractiveness of students to the School environment;
• The involvement of students in the School's activities;
• Collaborative projects.
In the long term the PhD School will contribute to leveraging the quality of new professionals in the health sector, in health-related businesses, contributing to improving the quality of services provided and the overall health of the population. The innovative model of leveraging Ageing@EITHealth_Brain by the EIT mission may constitute a new model for future doctoral training in Europe.
