Millennials Festival - Youth and Agri-food Innovation
Laboratórios de I&DT

Transforming Siena into the Italian Capital of Millennials and make it a unique place that fosters relations and connections between actors, research institutions, businesses and individuals within the agri-food sector, with a specific attention to those who are committed in bringing about new technological and social solutions as well as new products, processes and organizational forms: this is, under the auspices of the G7 Italian Presidency, the objective of the second edition of the Millennials Festival which is an official side event of the G7 SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY.

The Festival, held in the heart of Siena on the 5th and 6th of October 2017, is the result of the cooperation between the University of Siena and the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) This year’s edition is enriched by the contribution of the Siena Municipality, the BCFN – Barilla Center for Food and Nutrition, the Monte dei Paschi Foundation, the Future Food Institute and the community of the Euro-Mediterranean programme PRIMA (Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area).

The growing urgency that we face today is to “connect the dots” in a system that still presents high levels of fragmentation: Research organizations, Universities, businesses, startups, political and financial institutions, farmers, end users, consumers should interact within the premises of a more cohesive innovation’s system, active and open to all stakeholders. A system that fosters the sharing of knowledge and not only provides visibility to best practices, but also facilitates their spreading.

In responding to this challenge, the role of Millennials is crucial. Their lifestyles are redefining nutritional, as well as social and production-related needs. This generation’s ability to creatively connect knowledge and experiences is matched by its ability to imagine and create new solutions to improve the sustainability of our territories through food systems.
