The Instituto Pedro Nunes Incubator (IPN) is one of ten European Incubators invited by the European Commission to join the founding group of Africa-Europe Innovation Partnership, that will connect high-performance technology-based incubators and accelerators from various countries in Africa and Europe.

This initiative aims to create synergies between the innovation ecosystems of both economic spaces by promoting the exploitation of mutually beneficial partnership opportunities that result in collaboration, exchange and growth.

The main goal of the Africa-Europe Innovation Partnership is to strengthen the Africa-Europe global partnership through new players and to test other models to support innovation cooperation between the two continents. To reap the benefits of innovation, technology and research, this initiative also aims to explore shared challenges in meeting the UN General Assembly's Sustainable Development Goals, technology transfer opportunities and African participation in open EU programs (EU) like the H2020.

Partnership activities include connecting incubators and accelerators from the EU and Africa through network and technology transfer actions to support 'near-market' applications of new products and services, and capacitation to improve access to finance for African entrepreneurs and innovators.

Paulo Santos, Executive Director of the IPN Incubator and Accelerator, participated in the launching event of the initiative, held in Nairobi, Kenya, on 12 and 13 September, organized by the European Commission's Directorate General for Research and Innovation. Also present were Maria Cristina Russo, Director of International Cooperation of the European Commission, Simon Mordue, newly appointed Head of the EU Delegation in Kenya, and Sandra Kramer, Director of EU-AU Relations.
